how to tell DH without making him upset?

As you probably know from my older posts we live with in-laws, and MIL and FIL are over controlling. During my 5 years of marriage me and DH have grown backbone but DH apparently not enough, coz there still are cases when his parents nag/criticize him or even yell at him (FIL yells at everybody at every occasion) and sometimes even in front of 4 y.o.
