Bad MIL and a bad mother-what to do?

Later this year, my SIL is having a destination wedding in Mexico and DH and I won't be going. I just had our first baby and would never put him through such an ordeal, so I'm staying; DH, as a soldier and a new dad (he's so cute around our son!), doesn't want to be too far from his job or us, so he's staying too.
